about

"The name HOLY ANGELL came to me, as the name of a band I would be a part of sometime in the future, in a vivid dream during the fall of 2001. In the dream, I discovered that saying the name HOLY ANGELL could both offer great protection, and unleash supernatural and physical destruction. In 2011, Phillip Schaaf and I (Alan Short) wanted to start a crusty, fast side project from our main band, DEADBIRD. (I've always wanted to start a project that unabashedly worships TERRORIZER's 'World Downfall') When Kevin Rains moved back to Arkansas, he and I talked about starting something new that was similar to one of our old bands, Ridin' Dudes, but without the lightheartedness and humor. Soon the three of us got together to talk, to play music, drink beer and see what happened. As the songs began to take form, I remembered the band name HOLY ANGELL from the dream a decade before. The sound and attitude of the music seemed the perfect vessel for HOLY ANGELL to birth itself into our world. The songs began to take form very quickly. On some drunken nights, several songs would go from idea to finished and ready to add to the set. Metal Dave joined on bass. We saw a falling star that burned intensely green and frighteningly close above us, and then drifted slowly to earth, smoldering. It appeared to land not far to the south of the rehearsal space. We played shows in houses, skate parks and stages. Kiffin Roger's took over bass duties and we played more shows. After writing the Flood and the Flame we recorded 10 songs. Then we ceased to be. The record was never released. 'Sociopathic War Ballads' was recorded at the theater at Hendrix College in Conway, AR By Lawrence William(Sunn-T)Haynes. We were assisted by Keith Bracy. Additional guitars and vocals were recorded in our jam room by our own damn selves. Chuck Schaaf provided the killer mix/post production.
